Arts and Crafts
So, yesterday we decided to do a painting craft at our house. It was my first time to paint with Robby though not his first time to paint. I had always held off from this particular type of craft due to my aversion to large messes. So, why I decided it would be fun to make googly eye glasses last night is something of a mystery. Nonetheless, we gathered our egg cartons, cut to resemble glasses, pipe cleaners, and acrylic paint. We stripped Robby down to his underpants, and we gave him a paint brush.
Order of business 1: break up half the glasses so that they became individual cups. Mommy is not excited. Her plan is not going well. Now Mommy, Daddy, and Robby are down to one pair each if no more are broken.
Order of business 2: paint last remaining pair in a LOT of black paint. So much black paint that 24 hours later they will still not be dry. But seriously, are any sunglasses cooler than all black shades?
Order of business 3: spend the rest of the time dipping the paintbrush in the various colors of paints and then cleaning it off in the water. Rinse. repeat. Rinse. repeat. Mommy figures out what is going on (she was distracted by her own efforts to create super cool purple and silver shades). Mommy attempts to stop such shenanigans. Rinse. repeat.
Order of business 4: Mommy has finally convinced us that the object is not to muddy the water. So, we happily move on to painting ourselves and the furniture.
Order of business 5: Craft time has now ended. Suddenly. Apparently painting the white furniture is not what the doctor ordered. Instead, time for pictures and then upstairs with Daddy for a bath while Mommy tackles the downstairs.
She is glad to report that all paint traces appear to be gone. Just don't look under the table. She says painting with Robby is fun. It might be more fun to do outside next time. But, at least there will be a next time.
Look at my body paint!

What's My Name?
Tonight as we were getting Robby ready for bed, we were working on names, such as what is your last name, what is Daddy's name, what is Mommy's name, etc. He got his last name right away but stumbled a little when I asked Daddy's name. We got that all straightened out, and then I asked him, "What is Mommy's name." His eyes lit up, and it was clear that he knew the answer. He looked right at me and said "Sweetie."
So now you know. My real name.

Happy 5 Months Juliet!!
This month we got to celebrate Juliet's 5 month birthday, and for an extra special present, she got a brand new cousin on that day--Michael Collier Sloan, Jr. born to Bryan's brother Michael and his wife Ali, so we spent the afternoon/evening in Waco visiting them. I will have pics from that day to put on the blog soon.
Juliet continues to be such a joy in our lives. She is truly a happy baby, and she loves nothing more than just to hang out with us. She has started to really show an interest in Robby, which is something that I have been looking forward to for a while. He can make her laugh out loud just by hearing him laugh, and she follows very closely whatever he is doing.
This week my mom came to visit, and I took the opportunity to bust out the jean skirt that I got her before she was born. It is just such a cute piece :).
Juliet was showing off all of her best tricks for tah, including standing up (with help), squawking, making fish mouth faces, and having huge smiles. She also did some good hair pulling.
SueSue had four of her grandchildren all at once with her in the hospital this week from the oldest grandchild (Robby) to the newest (Collier). Juliet did not hold the status for youngest grandchild in the Sloan family for very long--she was just four months old when Sloan was born. Then, Sloan only got to be the youngest for one month before Collier was born. And then this August, we will welcome another new addition--and by that I mean a new cousin, so don't go getting any ideas!
Don't tell Dr. Audrey, but a big step we moved to this month was eating cereal. Robby did not start this until 6 months, but Juliet was just fascinated with food. She just seemed to need more than milk to really satisfy her, so last week we tried cereal. It was a huge and resounding success. She has a big bowl every night, and she always just chomps down the whole thing. Sometimes we even have seconds.
Another one of my favorite firsts happened this month--Juliet's first time to swing at the park! I still remember the first day we did this with Robby, and I will always remember Juliet's first time as well. Robby was a little taken aback by this new development and strongly felt that his territory was being encroached upon at first, but then he seemed to kind of get used to it.

When Robby was this little, I was always in a hurry for him to get big and hit the next milestone. Now I know just how fast it really goes, so part of me just wants to hold on to these sweet times a little longer. I know that within my next few month updates, I will be reporting on a mobile baby and a talking baby. Now, don't get me wrong, when she says Mama, I will absolutely and totally melt, but just for a little while longer, I am loving having my sweet little baby girl.

Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
Last weekend we went to the FW Museum of Science and History for the first time since it was remodeled. It was actually the first trip to the museum for both of our kids. We had a great time, and I recommend it to anyone with children :). They have tons of interactive and tactile displays and toys for children to learn basic concepts of science, and really just of life.
Robby showed off his jumping skills in the great mouth of the alligator. It was super funny to watch him try to touch the alligator tooth. Finally some poor museum volunteer had had enough of our torturing him and thus pointed out that he could easily reach the bottom teeth. Where's the learning in that?
We got tickets to the planetarium, which was the perfect opportunity for Juliet's short nap. Robby loved the pictures on the ceiling.
Mommy and Robby went for a quick trip on a trolley from the turn of the 19th century. What made the trip most fun was hide and seek from Daddy and Juliet.
Last stop was lunch in the museum cafe. We all shared a hot dog and pizza, and Robby decided to go native by painting his war face on with Nacho Dorito cheese fingers. It was a good look for him.

Another big hit was Robby's stint as an ambulence driver. Though he might cause more chaos than he helped to prevent, he would have fun doing it!
